Wild Honey Hunting Tour
The hunt itself starts at sunrise. The men rappel down sheer rock faces where giant Himalayan bees hang their combs in thick, dripping clusters. They use smoke to calm the bees, then cut the honeycomb free and lower it down by hand. The honey is unreal—thick, rich, and supposedly medicinal. There's even a rare "mad honey" that comes from rhododendron nectar, which has actual psychoactive properties. Honestly, the whole thing is as much about guts and teamwork as it is about the honey. That connection to nature isn't some poetic abstraction here; it's just how they live.

Detail Itinerary
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu you will be met by one of our representatives and then transferred to your hotel. As you enjoy your welcome drinks you will be briefed about your Lantang Valley Trek program. The rest of your day shall be at your leisure.
After breakfast, you’ll hit the road for what’s going to be a pretty long travel day. Expect to spend about 6-7 hours driving along the Prithvi Highway, with the landscape shifting from busy towns and bustling local markets to those iconic terraced hills and winding rivers as you head further out. Eventually, you’ll reach Besisahar; it’s the main gateway to the Annapurna region and where the real adventure kicks off. We’ll spend the night there to rest up and get everything sorted for the trek ahead.
Once you’ve finished breakfast, the real adventure begins. The trail kicks off with a steady, gradual climb that winds through quiet, traditional villages, deep green forests, and past small, hidden waterfalls; it’s the perfect way to get a feel for what daily life is like out here in the Himalayas.
As we gain a bit more elevation, the landscape really starts to open up, with the path framed by ancient oak and vibrant rhododendron trees. You’ll find that the walk is a mix of peaceful, easy stretches and a few sharper, steep climbs to keep things interesting. Eventually, you’ll roll into Ghalegaun, a charming Gurung village that is famous for its incredible mountain views and the genuine warmth of the people who live there. By the time evening hits, you’ll be treated to a spectacular sunset over the peaks, topped off with some local cultural performances to round out the night.
Today’s trek is a bit shorter than the last, but honestly, it’s one of the most scenic days of the entire trip. We spend most of our time following a ridge line, which means you get non-stop, jaw-dropping views of both the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges stretching out before you. As we walk, we’ll weave through classic terraced fields, pass by traditional village homes, and duck into some really peaceful stretches of forest.
We’ll be wrapping things up in Ghanpokhara, a super quiet, laid-back village that’s famous for its sweeping Himalayan panoramas and a truly authentic way of life. Once we get settled in, the afternoon is entirely yours. You can spend the time wandering around the village to chat with the locals, or just find a nice spot to sit back and soak in that incredible mountain silence.
Today is easily the highlight of the whole journey, and honestly, it’s one of those experiences you just can't find anywhere else. After a short hike to the base of the cliffs, we’ll get to watch the local Gurung community perform their traditional rituals before the hunt officially begins; it is a powerful thing to witness.
The real spectacle starts when the skilled hunters begin their descent down these massive, sheer cliffs. They use traditional, handmade rope ladders, working with incredible precision and nerve. They use smoke to keep the giant Himalayan bees calm while they carefully cut the honeycombs free from the rock face. It is a thrilling, high-stakes process that feels both ancient and deeply cultural. To top it all off, you’ll get the rare chance to actually taste the fresh, wild honey right there, seconds after it’s been harvested from the cliffside.
Once you’ve had your breakfast, we’ll start the day by heading down through some gorgeous forest trails toward Bhujung. It’s actually one of the largest traditional Gurung villages in the entire country, which makes the visit feel pretty special. The path itself is a nice mix of downhill stretches and a few gentle climbs, winding past local farm plots, hidden waterfalls, and small, quiet settlements that give you a real glimpse into everyday life here.
After we take some time to wander around and soak up the atmosphere in Bhujung, we’ll continue our trek with a climb up to Pasgaun. It sits right on a peaceful ridge and is famous for its stunning sunset views and that authentic, slow-paced rural lifestyle. It’s one of those perfect days where you get a bit of everything, as it offers a blend of deep cultural immersion and the kind of natural scenery that makes you want to stop and just take it all in.
Today’s walk is all about escaping into the quiet, rural heart of the region. As we head deeper into the landscape, the trail is filled with nothing but lush forests, the sound of birds, and the refreshing sight of clear mountain streams. The path is mostly a descent, though you’ll find a few steep bits here and there to keep things interesting. It is an incredibly peaceful experience, miles away from the noise and bustle of more touristy areas.
Take your time to just listen to the forest and admire the sweeping views of the surrounding hills as we move along. We’ll wrap up the day in Pakhrikot, a tiny, tucked-away village that feels like a world of its own. It’s the perfect place to kick back, relax, and really appreciate the simple, slow-paced rhythm of rural life.
After breakfast, we’ll start our final descent toward Thumsikot, strolling along those quiet rural paths and taking in the last few glimpses of the rolling hills and local villages we’ve come to know. Once we reach the bottom, we’ll switch gears and hit the road for the drive back to Kathmandu. It’s a scenic trip that winds through deep river valleys and classic country roads, giving you plenty of time to look back and process everything you’ve experienced over the last few days.
By the time we pull into the city, you’ll have had a good chance to reflect on all the sights and cultural encounters from the trek. To wrap it all up, we’ll have a proper farewell dinner that evening to celebrate the incredible journey you’ve had here in Nepal.
Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight a representative from Aarya Village Travel will transfer you to the airport for your onward journey.
